State knows best

Yet another stupid law is trying to jump out of the Government´s trash can: a law proposal on class actions. By making mass lawsuits in consumer protection law cases a Government monopoly, the proposal is not much more than a caricature of its original idea. According to the proposal, only the Consumer Ombudsman – which is just another Government office – could file class actions on behalf of consumers. The real plaintiffs would not even have the right to speak for themselves in such proceedings.

What we do not need is more Government lawyers on television. These phony show trials would burden the Courts and shift their focus away from he task of the Court system which is to guarantee and to enforce citizens´rights.
